分散染料是一類水溶性較低的非離子型染料。比較好早用于醋酯纖維的染色，稱為醋纖染料。隨著合成纖維的發(fā)展，錦綸、滌綸相繼出現(xiàn)，尤其是滌綸，由于具有整列度高，纖維空隙少，疏水性強(qiáng)等特性，要在有載體或高溫、熱溶下使纖維膨化，染料才能進(jìn)入纖維并上染。
因此，對染料提出了新的要求，即要求具有更好疏水性和一定分散性及耐升華等的染料，目前印染加工中用于滌綸織物染色的分散染料基本上具備這些性能，但由于品種較多，使用時還必須根據(jù)加工要求選行選擇。
